Singapore, SG (GMT+8)

In my last post, I mentioned some local retailers stocking famous nail polish brands. I’m constantly on a lookout, not only for price comparison, but also for the variety they carry (and more importantly, if they are authentic).

Last week, I spotted a couple while shopping around nex Mall. nex is one of the largest malls in Singapore, and the largest in the northeastern area (and with a cinema too, finally!). The first is located on level 4, unit 04-10; Ministry of Cube. This Japanese-borne retail concept has been sprouting in Singapore for a couple of years now, and Ministry of Cube is one of them. Basically, the store rents out cube box space to individuals who wants to showcase and sell their unique/ popular products, often not seen in the mainstream market. The store manages the transactions, store operations and takes rental fees and a cut from the sales.

2 of the vendors showcase nail polishes ranging from OPI, China Glaze, Essie and even soak-off gel polish Artistic Colour Gloss. Here are some snapshots. Tried to include the price signs where possible, cos I’m terrible at remembering.

With OPI going for SGD14.90 each, I consider it to be mid-price (the lowest I’ve found were SGD 9.00, and the highest at SGD 23.55, at department stores). Same for Essie, which were going for SGD 12.90, with better discounts if you purchase more.

The other retailer was located 5 floors down – DIY Beauty House (aptly named) at unit B2-19. [UPDATE: This store has closed down] I chanced upon it as I was making my way to the newly relocated bus interchange.

DIY Beauty House

They carry all your beauty supply needs for home beauty treatments/ styling etc, nail supplies included. There were non-branded and branded supplies including nail files, buffers, glass files, clippers, acrylic nails, swatch wheels, nail glues, cuticle pushers, UV lamps, nail dryers…I’m not even halfway there.

More importantly, they stock OPI, China Glaze(mostly Crackle), Poshe treatments and Harmony Gelish (might have some other nail treatments, but my memory fails me). The variety is pretty limited, but I’m surprised they stock China Glaze’s Meteor Shower from the Glitter collection. It was on my wishlist, but seeing it in real life, it doesn’t quite appeal to me now. Now I’m just on the hunt for Cosmic.

Their OPIs are a tad pricier than their level 4 neighbour, at SGD 16 a pop. But it gets cheaper when you get 3 bottles. Swatches are available, so that’s always helpful.

So, North-easterners now have an offline avenue to shop for quality nail supplies!

Since I’m putting up this post, might as well share my Nail of The Day (week, rather):

OPI Teenage Dream over Not Like The Movies

If your sharp eyes are wondering, the faint circles are failed attempts at Konad-ing.

OPI Teenage Dream’s subtle gradient over Not Like The Movies, both from the Katy Perry collection. I used to think that this collection was too loud and bright for my taste, but…what can I say. I am fickle.

Not Like The Movies is a spectacular shimmery duo chrome (more like triple) that shifts from purple to steel grey to seaweed green at the slightest movement of one’s fingers. It’s pretty sheer though, and applies rather streaky. I used 2 coats.

Teenage Dream is, well, perfect. It’s a brilliant glittery, sparkly pink in a clear base that commands instant attraction to one’s nails.

Together, they give a underwater, coral reef sorta feel, IMO. No?

I’m anticipating a couple of online hauls to come in this week. One’s a mix of China Glaze (repeat colour, which I ordered by mistake), OPI Tickle My France-y and Poshe Top Coat. The other’s butter LONDON, which I scored through Singsale. Their Creative Director, Nonie Creme, is hard at work at the New York Fashion Week, Spring/ Summer 2012 as I blog. Lurve her style!

Might post the hauls later this week, after I crawl out of another Smoochiezz flea. That’s right! They are having another flea. This time at The Cathay, Level 1 atrium, 16 September 2011, from 11am to 10pm. I am sooo broke this month =(

Later, lovelies!Post Signature
